Munich Airport, February 24, 2026 Exotec, a global leader in warehouse automation, has won the Berrang Group as a customer: the specialist in mechanical fasteners has built a new warehouse in Ingersheim (Baden-Württemberg), from which Berrang supplies the automotive and optoelectronics industries, as well as medical technology and mechanical engineering in the region, with precision and speed. The final acceptance took place in December 2025.
Since its founding in 1948, the Berrang Group, headquartered in Mannheim, has developed into one of the leading wholesalers for mechanical fastening technology. With more than 700 employees at twelve locations worldwide, the company serves customers in the automotive, mechanical engineering, agriculture, medical technology, and aerospace sectors. Berrang supplies its customers with C-parts made from all types of metals — ranging from screws, nuts and bolts to fully pre-assembled components.
Every Minute Counts
The group operates in a highly decentralized manner. The physical proximity of its own warehouses to customers is of the utmost importance in order to ensure just-in-time delivery at all times — particularly in the automotive industry, this advantage is decisive. For this reason, Berrang decided to build a new warehouse in Ingersheim to be able to supply nearby industrial customers with the required individual parts as effectively as possible. In the search for a suitable intralogistics system, the company ultimately found what it was looking for at Exotec.
The Skypod system from Exotec is now operational in the new warehouse. With more than 23,000 bins and 7,000 trays at a rack height of almost 12 metres, the system will achieve a throughput of 137 bin movements per hour — ideal for Berrang’s literally small-parts business and the strict time requirements.
“The Skypod system is highly flexible and ideal for our just-in-time delivery requirements, where every single minute matters,” says Andreas Essewein, Project Manager for Logistics and Operations Planning at Berrang. “In particular, the very strong support from Exotec has also been extremely helpful during implementation and is already paying off.”
“This project demonstrates the potential of the Skypod system for suppliers serving production and industry, even under the strictest requirements in highly specialized sectors — especially where the smooth supply of manufacturing facilities is paramount,” says Andreas Stöckl, EVP Sales at Exotec. “We are very pleased about the trust that the Berrang Group places in us and the close collaboration.”
