Skypicker picking robot makes its debut at LogiMAT 2022 in Germany

Event, Innovation

Exotec, developer and manufacturer of innovative robotic solutions for intralogistics, will be represented at LogiMAT 2022 ( Booth A41, Hall 5). Visitors will be able to see the latest product – the Skypicker – live for the first time.

From May 31 to June 2, LogiMAT will once again open its doors to companies in the logistics sector from all over the world. Rapidly expanding French company Exotec will be represented again this year at Booth A41 in Hall 5. Visitors will be able to see the renowned Skypod system and, for the first time, the Skypicker live.

Innovation at LogiMAT: the Skypicker

In January 2021, Exotec announced a new innovation that will be integrated into the Skypod system: the Skypicker. The Skypicker is an articulated arm that can move solid objects weighing up to 4.4 lbs (2 kg) and with a minimum area of 0.8 x 0.8 inches (2.03 x 2.03 cm) at a speed of 4.5 mph (2 m/s). It enables four orders to be prepared simultaneously and pushed outbound for order completion with manual picking or packing.

The Skypicker is controlled by the Astar software (developed by Exotec) in an enclosed and secure environment that ensures operator safety. Astar synchronizes the articulated arm with the Skypod robots and determines which bin to send to the Skypicker picking station. All of this is supported by a high-resolution camera and sophisticated visualization algorithms. The Skypicker ensures fully automated picking of products and achieves an output of up to 600 articles per hour. Depending on the industry, the picking robot can independently pick 30-50 percent of the articles.

The Skypod system

What makes the Skypod system so special as a picking solution for small parts? Autonomous robots move independently and three-dimensionally within the space. The system offers the best performance on the market. During configuration, storage capacity and performance are taken into account independently of one another. Thanks to this and the modular design, the Skypod system can be individually tailored to customer requirements and expanded at any time as the system grows.

Exotec’s systems are fully modular, allowing customers to set up their systems in just a few months and expand without disrupting production by simply adding robots, stations, or racks. The flexible solution ensures that companies are prepared for possible changes in the supply chain. Exotec modernizes supply chains to make them more resilient. The Skypod system achieves 98 percent uptime with no prolonged downtime. Our control center teams monitor more than 4,000 active Skypods 24/7/365 around the world.
