Sports chain Stadium invests SEK 300 million in robot warehouse in Norrköping

French company Exotec lands its first Swedish order – over 240 robots to streamline logistics

Norrköping, 3 March 2026 – Stadium, one of the Nordic region’s leading sports chains, is investing in a new highly automated logistics centre in Norrköping. The facility will be equipped with Exotec’s Skypod system and will be the company’s first wholly owned distribution hub – a strategic move to secure future growth.

The new facility in Norrköping marks a milestone for Stadium, which, after decades of outsourced logistics, has now brought the business home to its own tailor-made warehouse. The background to this is the need for more efficient store supply and greater control over the entire supply chain.

Exotec’s Skypod system is at the heart of the new facility. The system comprises over 240 autonomous robots that move in three dimensions throughout the warehouse – horizontally and vertically up to a height of 12 metres. With more than 170,000 storage locations Stadium has the capacity to handle both growth and large order peaks.

The solution is a complete end-to-end integration that includes logistics technology, palletising, RFID integration and Exotec’s Deepsky software.

– We needed a solution that gives us full control over our store logistics and is flexible enough to grow with us. With Exotec’s Skypod system, we can streamline deliveries to our stores and scale up capacity as the business grows, says Daniel Johansson, Supply Chain Director at Stadium.

Construction of the new facility will begin in 2026 and represents a multi-million investment for Stadium. The system is planned to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2028. Stadium will thus become Exotec’s first Swedish customer. A flagship project that underlines the company’s ambitions in the Nordic market.

– Stadium is a fantastic first Swedish customer project for us. It shows that our solution is ideal for Nordic companies that want to combine high flexibility with energy-efficient and scalable automation. We look forward to a long-term collaboration and to supporting Stadium in their continued growth, says Andreas Stöckl, head of Exotec’s Nordic operations.

Exotec’s Skypod system stands out for its low energy consumption – up to five times lower than traditional storage systems with stacker cranes – as well as its quick installation and the option to hire extra robots during periods of high demand. Since 2023, the system’s carbon footprint has been reduced by 30 per cent, partly through lighter racks and boxes made from recycled plastic.

Langebæk, one of Scandinavia’s leading management consultancies in the field of supply chain management, logistics optimization, and warehousing, is involved since the beginning of the project as a consultant. Langebæk is supporting Stadium in this project in close collaboration with Exotec.
