Most companies treat quality as a checkpoint: a final inspection before a product ships.

At Exotec, we treat it as a discipline embedded in every stage of the product lifecycle, from the first design sketch to years of operation in the field.

This distinction shapes everything about how our Quality team works, and why it might looks nothing like what you’d expect.

Quality is not controlled. It is built.

This is the conviction that shapes our entire approach. A Quality team that spends its time checking what others have produced is a team that steps in too late. It can detect problems, but rarely prevent them. And in our industry, where a defect may not surface until months into operation, late detection is often no detection at all.

Our Quality team is cross-functional and that is its primary strength. It works alongside design, industrialisation, procurement, manufacturing and customer support teams all the way through to the maintenance phase, supporting our clients.

At every stage of the product lifecycle, we set standards, we ensure they are applied, and we verify they are upheld. Quality is embedded from the design phase, not bolted on at the end.

Standardisation as a force multiplier

How our team guarantee the quality of a robotic system containing thousands of mechanical, electronic and software components? The answer is in the question: not by doing the work for other teams, but by giving them the tools to do it themselves.

We define standards that every engineer can apply, regardless of their discipline. These standards allow each contributor to integrate quality best practices into their daily work, without relying on external sign-off at every step.

The result is counterintuitive: the more quality processes are standardised, the faster development moves. Because a well-controlled activity requires less effort, produces fewer errors, and does not require costly rework downstream. In a market where time-to-market genuinely matters, delivering both quality and speed is not a compromise, it is a requirement.

We have also invested heavily in test automation, because certain validations, when left to manual processes, are inevitably incomplete or non-reproducible. Automated testing allows us to validate systematically, exhaustively and traceably, covering configurations that no human eye could reliably check alone.
